Discourses is an online database of classical and contemporary philosophy readings
from which you can create your own customized textbook or eBook tailored to your specific needs. Discourses
contains over 220 readings on fifteen topics, and the topic Applied Ethics and
Social Ethics contains seven subtopics on specific ethical issues.
Each selection:
- Is lengthy enough to present a self-contained argument, but concise
enough so that students will not lose track of the author's main point.
- Is preceded by a headnote containing a biography of the author and
an overview of the reading.
- Offers optional Study Questions, that can be included in your custom text to enhance student reading comprehension and spark lively classroom discussion.
- Contains endnotes explaining terms and references likely to be unfamiliar
to beginning students.
- Retains the reading's original headings and subheadings to help students
better understand the context and the organization of the selection.
Most of the readings can be viewed online with a password. If you wish, you can include your own material
in your book (syllabus and study guides, for example.) The material in your custom book can be arranged in
any order you desire.
